ABOUT THE
NEWSLETTER NAME
Why the "Excalibur Round Table"? As I'm sure most of you know the
exaltic name of your classical car comes from the legends of King
Arthur. In most versions of these legends, whether romanticized or
realistic, one item prevails - - |
a perfectly
balanced sword, decked with jewels and shimmering with
silver fit only for king's!
This sword was given the name "'Excalibur" by a well-noted fifteenh
century English poet, Sir Thomas Malory. Malory also found indications
in his Arthurian sources that there existed a gigantic, round table
passed on to Arthur upon his coronation and marriage. Such a table has
been said to accommodate from 150 to 150 gallant knights! Thus, the name
we have chosen for your newsletter! We will, in a sense, provide a
"table" to which all your ideas can come, be compiled, debated, etc.
Just as King Arthur's knights came to discuss all problems and celebrate
all victories and special occasions so shall you now have a way to be
put in contact with others "knights" and "ladies" owning classical cars
like your own.
EXCALIBUR DEALER'S
EXCALIBUR SUPPORT
We
have received very encouraging letters of support from several Excalibur
dealers. From E.A. Jurist, President of Vintage Car Store, Inc., Nyack,
New York, wrote an interesting "Human Interest" anecdote in his letter.
We are taking the liberty of recounting, in our first Newsletter, one of
Mr. Jurist recent experiences.
"I
was recently in Paris and while on my way to a cafe on a narrow winding
street I stumbled across a beautiful white Excalibur, parked at the
curb. I was with some European friends at the time and they all
expressed astonishment at what they though was a Mercedes Benz. I
assured them that it was not and further assured them that the car was
known to me. They laughed off the idea totally because the car was
decked out with Mercedes Benz emblems from front to rear, and very
attractively done. My friends expressed further astonishment when I told
them I would be willing to bet that the car was one which I had sold to
a good customer named Olaf Mueller. As matters turned out, Olaf called
me at my hotel in Paris and expressed delight over the prospect of a
reunion. He had called my office in New York and learned of my location
in Paris. We had quite a conversation together and he ultimately wound
up ordering a new Excalibur, having sold the white car, which we saw
parked at the curb, for a rather astonishing price". It's a small world! |
