THE ASSOCIATION IS
"GOING" AND "GROWING"!

YES—we are indeed. As of publication date, we had members. As with any new venture, we are also experiencing some of the early "going and growing " pains. Since our first publication, we have endured the cold and snow (witness the picture of Jim's Excalibur on our cover) and a trying tax season (the writer's full-time occupation being that of a mundane, crotchety CPA)! Now Jim, as the President of Kersting's Cycle Center Inc., is very busily engaged in the rigors of helping people "let the good times roll" on their new Kawaski's (and Harley'stoo).
We have a lot of ideas planned, and we hope several of them will benefit you. We may also have to change the quarterly publication date of the newsletter to avoid conflicts with our regular occupational responsibilities. If we decide to do so, we'll try to notify you in advance.
Now, let's discuss some of our ideas and policies. First, a word about our sales policies. We have decided not to sell any product or service through the Association unless and until we have a chance to test it and are personally satisfied. This will mean, of course, that it may take quite a bit longer for us to introduce new products and ideas to you. We personally feel that this approach is the most desirable. By doing this, we hope that the Association can save you valuable time and money. As a corollary to this approach, the Association will offer an unconditional satisfaction guarantee for any products or services sold directly through the Association. If for any reason you are not satisfied with any product or service offered for sale by the Association, we will replace the product or refund your money.
Next, we would like to make available spaces in
the newsletter for advertising by any Excalibur owner or dealer. This  could  be  an   excellent  way  for  you  to  promote  your

particular trade or business. Since we are new and our circulation is limited, we have decided to make the advertising rates nominal. Rates are as follows: Quarter page, $15; Half page $25; Full page, $40. Members would be entitled to 20% discounts from these rates. If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, please mail us
your layout no later than May 31,1977.
We are very pleased to announce that Mr. Brooks Stevens has been made an honorary member of the Association. Mr. Stevens contacted us several months ago, expressed support for the Association and indicated a desire to join. We felt it only appropriate that he be made one of our very few honorary members. We are indeed pleased to have Mr. Stevens as a new member.
The insurance program for Excalibur owners is moving along—quite slowly. It seems most underwriters have a mental vision of Excalibur owners as hot-rodding seventeen-year-olds out looking for someone to hit! The primary problem is lack of understanding— about the owners and their driving records and about the exact nature of the Excalibur itself. Therefore, our next step has to be the gathering of sound, honest information about Excalibur drivers. There is a questionnaire enclosed with this newsletter, and we would appreciate your taking a few minutes from your busy schedule to complete and return it to us. Preliminary investigations indicate that a program can be worked
out—perhaps ar a substantial reduction in premiums that have been reported to us as currently being paid. However, it's clear that we won't get to first base without additional facts. Although the questionnaire is for general informational purposes only — please be truthful.
We look forward to hearing from each of you. Thanks to every member who complimented our first newsletter and membership plaques. (Don)

LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Gentlemen:

I have just received your first volume of your quarterly news letter devoted exclusively to Excalibur owners. First of all, I am pleased to know that there is this organization, and I think it has the makings of a great club atmosphere. Excalibur owners are bound to be as different, as unusual, and as interesting as the car itself. We have experienced, in the four Excalibur Owners Meets this kind of fascinating ambience.
I thought you might like to have some of the older brochures, particularly one that introduced the Series II cars which was the greatest change throughout the development, because of the new chassis, new body, etc. You will be interested to know that I have, in my archives, a real 1927 Mercedes brochure which we took the liberty of following to the letter. The "Art Deco" motif, was in vogue at that time. Vice President, Steve, said, "If we are building a replicar, why not a replica brochure". This was made from our original renderings, when only a prototype car had been completed.
May I take this opportunity to wish you every sucess. Having the number 1 Excalibur prototype (the only supercharged Studebaker powered car ever built, besides the last Series I Phaeton ever built) I do wish to become a member. Please send me an application.

Sincerely yours,

BROOKS STEVENS ASSOCIATES, INC.
