ON OUR COVER

On the weekend of Aug 21 & 22 1977, the 5th Annual Excalibur Owners meet was held at Milwaukee Wis., and what a galla event it turned out to be this year. This was my 4th attended meet and this, in my opinion, certainly was the best of the good.
The scheduled activities commensed on Saturday morning at the Excalibur plant when 35 Excaliburs and approximately 80 drivers and co-drivers signed in for the 1st Excalibur Sport-Car type Road Rally ever held in the Milwaukee area. The course turned out ot be 76 miles in length, touring some of Wisconsin's most scenic country side. Mr. & Mrs. Steve Stevens laid out the coarse which kept every co-driver extremely busy watching for signs of all nature along the way which would be a clue to either the answer of some question which also at times was the decisive factor as to your future direction of travel. I also give Steve credit for choosing those quaint little Wisconsin town to travel thru where a thirsty soul could stop for the cool beverage that made Milwaukee famous.
Don Peters, my co-driver and professional answer man, and I were quite sure by the time we rolled into the Brooks Stevens' Mequon Wis. Design firm and Auto Museum that we undoubtly won the event as we were quite sure that all questions were correctly answered and we knew for sure that by backing 6 tenths of a mile along that one road would remove the 1.2 miles we lost by an incorrect turn in the Milwaukee park. Our assumption as you will see on the page with the Rally results was not quite 100% correct.
Saturday evening the Cocktail party and Rally awards presentation was held at the plant with some 500 persons attending. A great time was certainly had by all. A bountyful table of hor d'oeuvres, and nearly any kind of beverage that one could desire was served by the Stevens' Excalibur Automobile Corp.

Getting  signed  up  for  the  Road  Rally  is  Chuck  Alessi  of
Lombard, 111. and Ted Hoffman standing of Webb City, Missouri

Making new acquaintances was certainly the Saturday evening function where conversation rolled easily amongst the lovers of fine motorcars, namely Excaliburs.
Sunday morning greeted us with a steady rainfall. The schedule was to meet at the designated infield area of the Milwaukee Fairgrounds, line up the Excaliburs for the Concoursjudging by 11 A.M. The rain stopped to the greatest extent by approximately 11 but the streets were extremely wet as was the infeild area. Those concerned in placing in the judging got busy immediatly upon a to get their autos in tip top shape.
The judges and judging was handled by the Excalibur Assn. hit. Mr. Dan Bau and Mr. Bob Williams both of North Judson, Ind. and professionals in automobile judging were hired by your Association to carry out this tedious task. Bob and Dan later commented to me that judging Excaliburs against one another is much more difficult than other auto judging due to the large majority of Excaliburs being so well kept and so very near the same condition as per year and milage. In order to avoid ties they had to be extremely critical in all categories of judging. They were comended by many after the judging as to the very thorough job which they performed. The complete results of the judging is posted below.
While the judges were doing their job, a tour of the pits wasbeing conducted exclusively for the Excalibur owners and their guests just prior to the running of the Tony Bentenhouser Memorial Race. Due to the rain the race got off and running with approximately a one hour delay and finished seconds before a down pour. Gestures of farewell and memories of a good time ended the 5th Annual Excalibur Owners Meet.
