OBERNAI

Excalibur Owner's Club of Switzerland

Annual Meeting 2002

As you know, the Excalibur Owners' Club of Switzerland annual meeting 2002 took place at Obernai (Alsace, France) from June 21th to 23th.

As I was invited to that trip, I went at Obernai to spend an EXCALIBUR Week-end  of which I will relate the story.

Friday morning, 8:30AM, departure from my house to go to Obernai (after a agitated night as much I was impatient to be). A "little drive" of  580 Km.

No, it's not me on the picture but Clementine, my daughter, 2 1/2 years old, already enthusiastic about Excalibur cars.

Long trip via Etampes, Fontainebleau, Troyes, Vittel, Epinal, Saint-Dié To finally arrive in the Vosges and start searching the group.
Finally I found them. What a vision !!! 12 Excalibur aligned the one beside the other, and all in "Swiss" condition, I mean, in mint condition or showroom condition !!!
After the introduction to the group around a table and a merited drink (6 hours of driving an Excalibur with the sun, I was thirsty), the group and I continued the trip in the direction of our hotel ("Le Parc") at Obernai for a merited dive in one of its two swimming pools.
Arrival at the parking of the hotel and it was now time to admire those beautiful cars that I let you admire too.

The evening, dinner with Alsatian wine tasting in a restaurant at Obernai. Then, a merited sleep.

The next morning, breakfast at 9:30AM and departure at 10:00AM for a new day of trip.

Try to imagine the expression of the people who saw, not only one, not only two, not only three but nothing less than 13 Excaliburs in a single file. It was incredible.

Stop near the castle of Koenigsbourg and arrival of three new excaliburs, so beautiful than the others.

Lunch break !!!

And the incredible happened. Two mythical mark at the same place. Yes, a group of sixteen Ferraris came for lunch where we were lunching. That attracted lot of people stopping to see all cars.

But it was already time to go. Isn't it, M. president ?

Saturday night: "Dîner de GALA". Meal and wines were succulent (Ah, "La France", what a great country!).

Here is the menu.

After a repairing night, it's already the time to go back to home.

7:30AM, everybody is still slipping, like the cars and for some with their cover !

A last sadden glance on that superb cars and I'm already on the road to go home
6 hours after, I'm back after a trip of more than 1500Km without any problem. Who will say now that an Excalibur is not reliable ?

The driver is nobody else than my soon Dimitri (7 years old), also enthusiastic about cars and motorbikes. Beside him, his delightful passenger, his sister Clémentine.

Now, it's time to park my car in the garage, that's conclude this extraordinary week-end spent with some Excalibur enthusiasts.

After having read that short story, I hope that will give you the desire either to participate to the next meeting (the next one is in Germany at the end of august), or to organize one (in US ?). And why not an European meeting next year ?  (It was already an International meeting, even if it was organized by the club of Switzerland, a german car and a french one (mine) participated to it !)

To conclude:

I would like to dedicate that story to my wife Murielle who had to stay at home to look after our 2 children. But, the next meeting, we will be together !

I want to thank the Excalibur Owner's Club of Switzerland and all the people who participated to the trip at Obernai: Hans, Otto, Peter, Martina, Paul, Theodor, August, Bruno, Alex, Marco, Georg, Max, Jürg and all others for their warm welcome and that great week-end.

Thank to all of you and bravo for your beautiful Excaliburs!
